Did you know? Disney Wonder edition

In celebration of the Disney Wonder arriving at our ports in late 2023, I thought it was time we met this beautiful ship.

A 90s baby

The Disney Wonder is the second ship in the Disney Cruise Lines fleet, entering service at the tail-end of the 90s in August 1999. She is the second and last Magic class ship and along with her sister ship the Disney Magic, successfully kicked off Disney’s foray onto the high seas. Since then, DCL has launched 3 more ships, with another announced during 2022’s D23 expo.

For the first time in forever

When Disney Wonder reaches our shores in October 2023, she will be the first Disney Cruise ship in Australia and New Zealand waters… ever.

Fairy Godmother

Every ship is christened by someone with special prominence, becoming that ship's godmother, godfather, or godchildren. Disney Wonder’s Godmother is none other than everyone’s favourite fairy, Tinkerbell! During the christening, she spoke only in bell sounds, as she’s known to do, with Mickey having to translate for her!

Disney Royalty onboard

The two Royal Suites aboard the Disney Wonder are named after the men who started it all. The Walter E. Disney Suite (Room #8030) and the Roy O. Disney Suite (Room #8530) are located mid-ship on Deck 8. They are large 2-bedroom suites with art deco décor and a whirlpool tub! If you ever get the chance to stay in one of these incredible suites, they’re worth it.

Musical Spectacular

Entertainment on the Disney Wonder is truly magical. From nightlife and youth clubs to Broadway-style musicals and first-run movies, there’s honestly something for everyone. While we don’t know for sure what entertainment will be available for the Australia & New Zealand season, currently on the Wonder you can experience Frozen, A Musical Spectacular and Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic.

Parties with friends

One of the best things about the Disney parks and resorts are the character experiences – the Disney Wonder is no different. Throughout the day, you will come across Captain Mickey, Minnie, and all their friends in their best cruising attire. You’ll even get to meet superheroes, Princesses, and your favourite Pixar pals. Join your buddies for parties on deck and themed nights – including Mickey’s Sail-A-Wave Party!... A Bon Voyage Celebration as you leave port!

A taste of everything

Disney Cruise Line’s unique take on dining – called rotational dining – means you don’t miss out on experiencing the differently-themed restaurants throughout your cruise. Disney Wonder has three main dining rooms – Triton’s, which serves “continental food with a French flair”; Tiana’s Place, serving the best in southern-, creole-, and cajun-inspired food; and Animator’s Palate, where you can sample a fusion of Pacific Islands foods, Asian cooking and fresh Californian fare while surrounded by the magic of animation.

A mix of old and new

Each Disney Cruise Line ship has a character incorporated in the filigree on the bow of the ship, a statue in the atrium and a character or characters on the aft with the ship’s name. On the Disney Wonder mixes history with the Disney renaissance – with Steamboat Willie on the bow, Donald and his nephews on the aft, and Ariel, The Little Mermaid, in the atrium.

Adults can have fun too

We all know Disney isn’t just for kids, Disney is for everyone. On the Disney Wonder, adult-only time is celebrated with exclusive areas for adults to hang out and relax. Quiet Cove is an adults-only escape with its own pool and lounge, find relaxation and balance in the Senses Spa & Salon, and visit one of the adults-only restaurants and bars.

All-in-all, a holiday aboard the Disney Wonder is a magical and enchanting time with something for everyone! For more information on the ship, you can visit the Disney Cruise Line website.
